BBC AMERICA To Co-Produce Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell For Supernatural Saturday
The series is set during the Napoleonic Wars in an England where magic once existed and is about to return.
Announced this morning, BBC AMERICA is co-producing a new drama series for Supernatural Saturday, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, based on the bestselling novel by Susanna Clarke and adapted by Peter Harness (Wallander, Is Anybody There?). The series will premiere in 2014 on BBC AMERICA.
Nick Marston CEO of Cuba Pictures says:
“The production has now developed into a seven part series and we are delighted that Peter Harness is well on the way to completing all seven hours. He has just delivered episode five and, with Toby Haynes (Doctor Who, Sherlock, Wallander) on board to direct, we are in an excellent position to begin pre-production later this month with production due to start filming in late summer.”
Richard De Croce, SVP Programming, BBC AMERICA says:
“Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is one of our next big series for our Supernatural Saturday block, as Susanna Clarke’s stories transcend borders and are perfect for our US audience. It’s another high-end drama for BBC AMERICA and we’re proud to be working with Cuba Pictures and BBC One.”

BBC AMERICA TO CO-PRODUCE NEW ORIGINAL DRAMA, FLEMING (W/T), ON LIFE OF JAMES BOND CREATOR IAN FLEMING
DOMINIC COOPER (THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE, MY WEEK WITH MARILYN, AN EDUCATION) TO STAR AS THE CELEBRATED AUTHOR
Since Casino Royale was published in 1953, the world has been fascinated with James Bond and last year the film franchise celebrated its 50th anniversary. Fleming (W/T) takes a no holds barred look at Ian Fleming, the man behind the James Bond legend whose real life was as exciting, eventful and sexually charged as his famous creation.
Dominic Cooper will play Ian Fleming, a charming, sophisticated maverick whose dilettanti, pleasure seeking life was turned around by WWII and led to the creation of the best known spy the world has ever known.
About his casting, Dominic Cooper said: “Stepping into the shoes of the spy who not only created the enigmatic character of 007, but who fantasized about being him, has to be every actor’s dream.”
Richard DeCroce, Senior Vice President of Programming, BBC AMERICA, commented: “Not only did Ian Fleming create one of the most iconic characters of all time, he actually lived a life as exciting as 007’s. We can’t wait to see Dominic Cooper bring his incredible talent to this role.”
Douglas Rae, Executive Producer for Ecosse Films, added: “Ian Fleming’s story is as dramatic and entertaining as any of the Bond films. I’m thrilled that we are able to tell this extraordinary story on BBC AMERICA.”
Cheers to the cast and crew of our Dramaville miniseries THE HOUR on their GOLDEN GLOBE nomination for Best Miniseries or TV Movie.
